Inability to select form fields from within Integra
A repeatable problem has been identified when creating an Integra for Notes profile on a form which has a very large number of fields on the form (usually in excess of about 300 fields). The error occurs when a user is creating a new Integra profile and, following selection of the database to be linked to, the form is selected in the fields tab.
In the event that the number of fields on the chosen form is very large (somewhere in excess of 300 fields), and depending on the version of the Lotus Notes client being used on a workstation, the problem may manifest itself either by not displaying any fields for the user to choose or, when adding the fields to the Selected Field List, in the presentation of a paragraph error.
The cause of this problem is that, so as to make selection of the available fields for the user more intuitive, Integra builds up an array listing all the fields on the form. Arrays have a size limit which cannot be greater than 64K. As a result, if every field uses its maximum allowed field name size of 32 characters, this will allow up to 120 fields to be listed. If shorter field names are used, a larger number of fields can be supported in this way.
Workarounds
Two workarounds are possible:
1 Manually Enter the field names
Rather than selecting the fields from the list of available fields, the user will need to create a field name as one does when creating a computer field with the difference that the Form should not be selected prior to the entry. Select the Other option checkmarked below and manually enter the fields that are required in the New Tags Integra field shown below.
Please note that it is perfectly possible to enter the names of multiple fields at one time. Following entry of the field or fields, the user still needs to click on the Add button to add the entered fields into the Selected Field List.
2 Use Sub-forms
Rather than having a very large number of fields on a form, the user may consider splitting the fields onto multiple sub-forms. This is in fact in conformity with the Best Practices Guide for Lotus Notes Development. Fields which are contained on sub-forms are available to the Integra profile creator in the same way that standard fields are and therefore this does not cause any limitation on Integra's use, unlike many other Notes related reporting tools which do not support sub-forms. |
